Setting and atmosphere
Nerja is the largest and liveliest town on this stretch of coast, about twelve kilometres east of Torrox Costa and around 50 minutes from Málaga airport. Its landmark is the Balcón de Europa, a viewing terrace above the sea with views along the coast to the mountains. Around it lie small rocky coves with clear water, and a winding old town with shops, tapas bars and squares.
Living here
Nerja is alive all year: cafés, markets, concerts and festivals, an international community and a good range of doctors, schools, banks and supermarkets. The Nerja Caves, a large stalactite cave on the edge of town, are the best-known excursion in the area. Prices are on average higher than in neighbouring towns, especially near the beach and for properties with sea views.
Who it suits
Nerja suits buyers who want to combine town atmosphere with the sea: apartments with a balcony within walking distance of the centre, penthouses with a roof terrace and villas on the slopes with wide views. Demand stays steady in the off-season, which makes the town interesting for holiday rentals and as a year-round home alike.
